ALT key does not work anymore at startup

For 2 days, and having not modified anything on my iMac, pressing the ALT key at startup does not allow me to choose between Mac OS Leopard and Windows anymore. I can change the system preferences to boot to one system or the other ; I have checked that the ALT key works with other softwares.
So it looks as something has been broken with the startup.
Could anybody help, please?

You might try this:

Remove any USB device except mouse/keyboard
Perform a PRAM-reset (hold ALT-CMD-P-R until you've heard the starting chime 3 times)
