FireWire 800 Hub

Have you tried daisy-chaining the Firewire devices if they have multiple FW connectors on the device(s)? The devices should be using their own power supply if more than one device is connected depending on what you are connecting; is that true of the devices you want to connect? What are the devices you want to connect?

You can find hubs by Google search although I think FW400 hubs are more prevalent than FW800 hubs but the hub approach may not be necessary.

Are your FireWire devices FireWire 800 or FireWire 400; if a mix, how many and type of each?

I bought a FW 800 to 400 adapter for $9 from OWC and connected my old BUSlink (Model H6FW) 6 port firewire 400 hub and all is copacetic. Congratulations on your new i5.

That's correct. You can't mix Firewire 400 and 800 together. Sometimes if you have 400 you might also have USB2. I would suggest using that and just keep the 800's together to maintain full 800 speed.

I'm also about to buy an i5 machine. I have a FW 800 External HD and a Firewire 400 hub to which I connect some FW400 devices and some usb 2.0 devices. If I connect the FW800 External HD directly to the FW800 port on the computer and then connect the FW400 hub in a daisy chain to the FW800 port on the external hard drive, will that slow down the FW800 connection from the external hard drive to the computer?
