how do you confirm actual image size in Preview?

I want to reduce the size of an image, using Preview.

So I go to Tools > Adjust size and choose the new dimensions. I save the image, and it is now clearly smaller. But when I choose View > Actual size, the dimensions (measured on screen) don't match the ones I've set. And when I print it out, trying several different dimensions, it always prints the same size - A4.

I know this should be obvious, but what do I need to do to be sure that the image is the size I want, and to print it out that size?

thanks - but I can't see how this answers my question.

I don't want to batch resize, and the resizing procedure itself is very straightforward.

But I can't print out the reduced images to the correct sizes - whatever the new dimension, it always prints out at the same size, and the actual size on screen appears to be incorrect (please see original post).

What am I doing wrong?

In Preview choose Preferences click on the Images tab, at the bottom of the window make sure that the box next to Respect Image and screen DPI for scale is checked. File>Print & check the centered option (if that is what you wish) & leave the scale at 100 percent. If you want to print more than one of the same image on the page choose the number of images from the drop down menu at the bottom of the print dialog box & check the box below that that reads Print (numbers) per page & change scale settings accordingly.
