Q: Setting up an Appl LaserWriter 16/600

A friend of mine from the local MR2 club hooked me up with some hardware leftover from his office that was closing its doors last week. Anyhow, included with the stuff i got, is an old Apple LaserWriter 16/600, that has a farallon ethernet adapter on it. So I was hoping to use it as a network printer, since I don't have a printer, so far I've considered printers as being against my religion, but there are those times when I do need one......

Now I thought It might be as easy as just plugging it in, and seeing it on my network, wishful thinking, I know. It didn't work out, in fact, when I log in to my router, thats running DD-WRT, I can't even see it listed as a connected device

So then I started googling, trying to figure out what to do with it, and I found this link
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/54859-3-apple-laserwriter-windows-vista-machin e

which led me to download the old software. unfortunately I don't have any machines with vista, I only have 64-bit windows 7 installs, and lots of linux. Now you would like to think, old NT4 software, and 64bit Win7, it should just work......but I ended up slapping XP on a test machine, and got the printer hooked up locally, thinking thats what I needed to do to put in new network settings with the software.....and at this point, I keep trying to feed it network settings, and printing settings pages, and the IP is always 0's, so I must be doing something wrong, or I'm missing something, but I need help here, and I'm hoping I don't get shot down right away for not having any Macs....

I've downloaded the manuals for it, and tried to look over, and can't really seem to find what I'm looking for in there. I also went around the forum here a little, but all the questions regarding setting up this printer that I've found all involve Mac OS, which won't help me much

na, Other OS

    i got it working.......

turns out, when looking at the pdf, following the index, the page numbers are actually different, from the page numbers on the PDF, that messed me up some. I ended up grabbing the MAC and configured a static ip for it in my router, and then did the telnet thing to set it up there, and configured cups on my linux box......win7 was a little different, had to use the MS publisher driver, that was soooo obvious

but its working like a champ
