Eligibility for Apple Care Plan (Lost Receipt)

Hi All,

I got my macbook 13-inch in late december 2008. My one year warranty is running out so i am thinking of purchasing apple Care plan. I am quite sure that I bought my macbook in late december but I lost the receipt for it.

I registered my macbook online and tried to use "https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do" to see how much more time is there bfore my one-year warranty expires but all i got was "We're sorry, the number you have provided cannot be found in our records. Please verify the number and try again, or contact us."

Is it possible for me to buy and use the applce care plan then?

You should be able to purchase AppleCare--it might be best to contact them directly by phone.

If you purchased through Apple, then they will have record of the purchase. If you did not purchase from Apple, the retailer may be able to provide you a copy of your receipt should you need it.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions!

In the U.S. you can call AppleCare Support and talk to an actual AppleCare "admin" who deals specifically with questions & issues dealing directly with warranties and AppleCare Protection Plans and not with general technical support. I would call AppleCare Support and ask them directly. They're sure to have more information than we do (as regular users like yourself).

Hi,
I have a macbook still under 1 year of warranty. I have registered online. Infact i have recently changed my internal Hard disk from apple as there was hardware problem.
I am thinking of buying apple care protection plan. Do i have to submit my receipt to apple before getting a plan... ??
I have heard only regsitering online with the serial number for apple care protection plans is enough.
pl advise

You do not need your original receipt.

You don't have to do anything, not even register online, to make your Mac eligible for an AppleCare Protection Plan. Apple knows the date each Mac was sold.

If i want to buy Apple Care Protection plan for my macbook online then will apple send me a serial number for it .. ?? Do I need to get a plan from apple store.

Isn't it possible just to buy the serial number online like any other software and later download Technical Tool Deluxe...

I just purchased my apple care on a 1 year old computer as well.

I called their phone retailer and had a pleasant discussion with the saleswoman.

I ask the same question, about just giving me the serial over the phone. She said unfortunately they were not able to do that and must send you the physical box. I was getting pretty close to being over my initial year, and was worried the box wouldn't arrive in time. The saleswoman assured me that as long as it's purchased within a year of the original purchase, you'll be able to enroll.

Hi,
I also called the sales women and she told me exactly the same. Finally i had to buy from my local area with some extra taxes according to country.
I just enrolled into apple care protection plan from today.
