iPod Classic 6G 160Gb Issues & Itunes Crashes

I recently bought an iPod Classic 6G 160gb, added some files to the library, sync'ed it with the ipod and listened without problems. But when i was trying to connect the ipod the second/third... time to the pc, the itunes crashed, and the ipod said something like: "Use iTunes for restore" or something. The only way that i was able to get into iTunes with the ipod connected was to first start itunes and then connect the ipod.

I'll post some error logs down, from the itunes crashes:

Hmmm ... the 32-bit version of ntdll.dll (one of your core operating system files) is crashing for you. That can suggest that you've got some unsigned drivers (for 64-bit Windows OS) on your system.

The last time I saw a 32-bit ntdll.dll crash like that (on a 64-bit Windows, in an iTunes-related context), the crash was caused by a copy of ATI Tray Tools installed on the PC.

Do you have a copy of ATI Tray Tools on your PC?

Okay. A generalised upgrade of all the drivers associated with your hardware and software would be probably the best way to proceed, then. (Given that ntdll.dll is such a basic component in the Windows operating system machinery that deals with hardware devices and software drivers, it pretty much could be any driver on the PC that could be causing the issue.)

The following document may be of some assistance with the device driver process:

[Updating the drivers on your Windows PC|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1768]

When you visit the drivers and downloads page for your model at your manufacturer's website, it would probably also be a good idea to check on any software updates they have available there too.

Also be sure to head to Windows Update to make sure you're up to date in that regard too.

If no joy with any of that, post back and we'll work through some other ntdll.dll troubleshooting possibilities.

I've updated everything I could, but the problem is still there, itunes crashes when i connect the ipod, making it to enter recovery mode and I have to wait everytime like 15-20mins until my songs are sync'ed back on the ipod
It's strange though, that this happens only from time to time, not each time I connect it

... That sounds familiar ...

By any chance, do you have at least 4 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset on that PC? If so, see:

🙂 Fingers crossed!

At this stage, we haven't heard back from Dean, who seemed to have gotten past his similar intermittent issue with syncing by applying the HotFix:

I'm hoping here that "no news is good news" ... but since it's an intermittent issue, we have to wait a while to see if there's been a positive effect.
