Internet connection lost after sleep - Ethernet

I have just started using a new router (a Linksys). My problem is that after the iMac comes out of sleep I cannot get an internet connection using ethernet. It is not the router, a PC connected at the same time does not lose its connection and the internet light on the router stays lit.

When I lose the connection I cannot access the router's web page @ 192.168.1.1. The admin login box appears but with a name that relates to a previous router I used. I assume that this is part of the problem.

Any ideas?

Having just upgraded to 10.6.3 I am now seeing this problem. I had no problem before the upgrade, when running 10.6.2, and none of the other computers in the house (Mac Pro. 10.6.2; Mac Mini, 10.5.7; iBook G4, 10.4.11) are experiencing any problems. We are all using Ethernet/DHCP with a Billion BiPAC 7402VGP ADSL router for Internet access.

If after waking I disable DHCP (Configure IPv4: Off; Click <Apply>) then re-enable it (configure IPv4: Using DHCP; Click <Apply>), my internet connection is reestablished. If I just configure my connection manually, the problem never shows up (but this is not an entirely acceptable solution).

Also, if I disable "Wake for network access" (Energy Saver settings), as suggested elsewhere in this thread, the problem doesn't show up either, whether or not I'm using DHCP for my IP configuration.

I also have a 27" i7 which was exhibiting the same issue, no ethernet connect to internet after wakeup from sleep and had read this thread weeks ago, turned off 'wake for network access" and all has been well for weeks. Last night I was setting some screen sleep parameters, and then also checked wake for network access.... and this morning no internet until I rebooted the system. I have turned off wake for network access now and will let you know over time if this is the identifiable issue!

After months of messing about, cursing, tweaking settings, removing programs and reinstalling them, reinstalling Snow Leopard and more cursing, the problem has now gone away apparently.

The only thing I can think of that has caused this welcome change in behaviour is that I now have the computer set to never sleep in the energy settings (display and hard drives are allowed to sleep but not the iMac itself). I'm not sure if I even remember changing this setting. I will however, now modify it and see if the interrupts return.

Boy it is good not to have to reboot the machine 2-5 times a day, every day !!!!

I have called Apple Support and they recommended I visit a store to have my machine looked at.

I've done a ton of diagnostic work on this and have concluded it is a hardware issue, not software. I'm taking my system/kernel log info with me to show how the port isn't waking up and making a physical connection on wake-up or reboot.

I'll post the solution if/when one is found.

I ran all of the same tests with the same network cabling/ports on my MacBook Pro and it works fine.

I have the same problem since I updated to 10.6.4. Before it, everything was working fine. After a long sleep, the wireless connection is gone. I have to either turn off and on the airport on the iMac or use join other network to reconnect. The problem doesn't happen all the time. It's pretty randomly. Now I just move the airport to the first in the list and turn IPv6 to off. I hope this will solve the issue.

I am having the same problem with my 17" MacBook Pro running 10.6.4 right out of the box, no upgrade from previous operating system. Takes 2-3 minutes to connect to the internet after waking from sleep. MB is on a home ethernet, connected to a DLink switch thru a Comtrend DSL router. Also on the network is a 21.5" iMac, also 10.6.4 right out of the box and an HP Laptop running Vista (sorry).

No problems ever with either the iMac or HP (or with a previous custom built Windows box running XP) in connecting or dropping connections. Have tried all the usual including rebooting DSL modem and switch, tried different ethernet cables, tried connecting the MB to the cable used by the iMac and the HP, still experienced the problem.

Pretty much convinced the problem is not with the network.

Am trying allygill's workaround in energy saver of setting the MB to never sleep, while setting hard disk and display to sleep after a short period.

Have put the MB to sleep several times and woken it up, connected with no problems. Will keep my fingers crossed for this workaround. Still intend on taking it in as I think, like jflynn12, that it could be the mother board.

Anyone else have other ideas?
