Apr 7, 2010 2:17 AM in response to AllyGillby George Hulseman,I have finally resolved this issue by changing the settings on my DSL modem to be in bridge mode and setting up my wireless router (Airport Extreme) for PPPoE. Previously the DSL modem had been set up in PPPoE mode and the Apple base station was set up as bridged ethernet. It works! I can put any one of the Macs on our network to sleep and wake them up and internet works right away. Previously I would have to wait at least a minute or two before internet came back. -
Apr 11, 2010 12:31 AM in response to gthull644by Peter Harrison,Having just upgraded to 10.6.3 I am now seeing this problem. I had no problem before the upgrade, when running 10.6.2, and none of the other computers in the house (Mac Pro. 10.6.2; Mac Mini, 10.5.7; iBook G4, 10.4.11) are experiencing any problems. We are all using Ethernet/DHCP with a Billion BiPAC 7402VGP ADSL router for Internet access.
If after waking I disable DHCP (Configure IPv4: Off; Click <Apply>) then re-enable it (configure IPv4: Using DHCP; Click <Apply>), my internet connection is reestablished. If I just configure my connection manually, the problem never shows up (but this is not an entirely acceptable solution).
Also, if I disable "Wake for network access" (Energy Saver settings), as suggested elsewhere in this thread, the problem doesn't show up either, whether or not I'm using DHCP for my IP configuration. -

May 11, 2010 6:34 AM in response to gthull644by jdrwiebe,I also have a 27" i7 which was exhibiting the same issue, no ethernet connect to internet after wakeup from sleep and had read this thread weeks ago, turned off 'wake for network access" and all has been well for weeks. Last night I was setting some screen sleep parameters, and then also checked wake for network access.... and this morning no internet until I rebooted the system. I have turned off wake for network access now and will let you know over time if this is the identifiable issue! -
Jun 5, 2010 6:01 PM in response to George Hulsemanby Lostinwoods,Hi
I just read your post. I have no idea how to change my modem settings. Could you help me out.
Thanks -
Jun 6, 2010 12:02 AM in response to gthull644by AllyGill,After months of messing about, cursing, tweaking settings, removing programs and reinstalling them, reinstalling Snow Leopard and more cursing, the problem has now gone away apparently.
The only thing I can think of that has caused this welcome change in behaviour is that I now have the computer set to never sleep in the energy settings (display and hard drives are allowed to sleep but not the iMac itself). I'm not sure if I even remember changing this setting. I will however, now modify it and see if the interrupts return.
Boy it is good not to have to reboot the machine 2-5 times a day, every day !!!! -
Jun 6, 2010 5:19 AM in response to George Hulsemanby Lostinwoods,I have the same problem. Brand new imac, it is connected directly to the cable modem via ethernet. Cannot connect to the internet after awaking from sleep.
Has anyone come up with a solution as Apple Support has not been helpful.
Thanks -
Jun 21, 2010 4:13 PM in response to Lostinwoodsby JFlynn12,Same problem here. Have not contacted Apple yet, but good to see others are experiencing this.
Now we just need a solution! -
Jun 26, 2010 1:41 PM in response to JFlynn12by R Jones,Same here. It's a shame to have to deal with this after spending $1700 and having it a month and a half. It's really no use to me if it can't connect to the net. Searching the forums for an answer from my Windows PC. -
Jun 26, 2010 4:35 PM in response to R Jonesby JFlynn12,If you've only had it for six weeks, call Apple. Their support is usually pretty good.
I only experience the issue on reboot, so it's just an inconvenience for me (my machine never sleeps). -
Jun 27, 2010 12:41 PM in response to JFlynn12by JFlynn12,I have called Apple Support and they recommended I visit a store to have my machine looked at.
I've done a ton of diagnostic work on this and have concluded it is a hardware issue, not software. I'm taking my system/kernel log info with me to show how the port isn't waking up and making a physical connection on wake-up or reboot.
I'll post the solution if/when one is found.
I ran all of the same tests with the same network cabling/ports on my MacBook Pro and it works fine. -
Jun 27, 2010 4:10 PM in response to JFlynn12by JFlynn12,Back from the store. The problem has been diagnosed as a faulty main board (which has the ethernet controller on it). They have ordered a new board, it will arrive later this week, then another 5 - 7 days to install it.
I'll post again after the repair. -
Jul 3, 2010 7:52 AM in response to gthull644by iAMme,I have the same problem since I updated to 10.6.4. Before it, everything was working fine. After a long sleep, the wireless connection is gone. I have to either turn off and on the airport on the iMac or use join other network to reconnect. The problem doesn't happen all the time. It's pretty randomly. Now I just move the airport to the first in the list and turn IPv6 to off. I hope this will solve the issue. -
Jul 7, 2010 12:53 PM in response to JFlynn12by JFlynn12,Machine is back from repair and the problem is fixed. The logic board was replaced and the ethernet port now works correctly off power-up and sleep.
So the problem IS NOT software related. It is a hardware issue and requires a logic board (motherboard) replacement.
Hope this helps others -
