Photo Booth backdrops

Ok.. I've been having problems using the backdrops effects on my Macbook Pro. Every time I use the Photo booth and tried to use the backdrop effects, it does not work.. even though I follow the prompt... am I doing something wrong?

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Welcome to Discussions, Jamoyan!

OK.. Yes, you must be doing something wrong.

Do you have enough light in the room?

Perhaps you are not stepping out of the picture until you see the the “Background Detected” message?

Have you searched PhotoBooth > Help for hints?

You don't specify what's wrong, but here are a couple of other common problem solutions:

(0) If you cannot add a snapshot or video to make your own backdrop, see

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=PhotoBooth/1.0/en/11860.html

(1) If you see "holes" in the background image or the image is not stable, see

I have tried all the tricks... moving out of the frame when asked to, well-lit room, but I still get the holes in the backdrops.

All the tricks? You should be able to make this work.

Search your Mac's Photo Booth > Help for "If an image with a video backdrop doesn’t look right" (without the quotation marks) and be sure you do everything it says to get the best results possible. Specifically:

(i) Find a place with a non-reflective, plain, light-colored background with no shadows on it. Set up your Mac on a sturdy surface so your camera cannot move while you you are using the effects.

(ii) Position the Mac so all your iSight sees is solid white when you and your chair are out of the picture. Ensure lots of light, but be sure to position your computer so neither your body nor anything else is casting a shadow on the background after you have moved back into the picture.

(iii) All clothing visible after you move back into the picture must be very dark, but not shiny. A black sweatshirt with no printing on it would be good. The same dark, not shiny requirements apply to your chair or anything else that moves back into the frame once you see the “Background Detected” message.

(iiii) Try some different background (backdrop) images to see if some work better than others.

Unless you can report that all is now working well, please confirm that you simultaneously use all four of the above suggestions during your latest tests. If the location/position of the holes is repeatable (example, your hair, eyeglasses, etc.), please give the specifics. Also, let us know if the location/position is EXACTLY the same for all the different backgrounds (backdrop) images you try.

We will watch for your status update.

Did you have a _light colored_ background? You didn't mention that trick!

Once you get use to all the adjustments especially the ones mentioned in EZ Jims post, using the effects is pretty easy & fun. I've gotten loads of new effects downloaded from the net to show off to friends & family during the holidays.
