I have been having this problem with increasing frequency lately. I have paired my Magic Mouse with my 1st Generation MacBook Pro. And sometimes, when I turn on the Magic Mouse, it connects fine, but other times it doesn't connect at all. I have a wireless keyboard as well and do not have the same issue. I, also, have checked for any new software updates several times and there is none. Most of the time, I have to manually connect by clicking on the Bluetooth icon and clicking connect -> mouse, and it works every time. Any one got any ideas?
Macbook Pro,
Mac OS X (10.6.2),
2 GB RAM 100 GB HD iPhone 3Gs
was ready to take it back too, but found the following
turn mouse on, after a couple of seconds click mouse once and hey presto mouse connects and works.
Obviously you need to make sure bluetooth settings are set to discoverable, On and set to show bluetooth status in menu bar before this will work.
I have the same issue as well. I have recently purchased a magic mouse and when I turn it off, then it does not automatically re-connect so I have to manually connect it from the Bluetooth icon on my imac. Any solutions?
As someone discovered, clicking the mouse several times will usually make it connect if it is discoverable.
An additional thing that helps - make the mouse (or KB) a favorite. Go to system preferences>bluetooth. Highlight the device and then click on the little gear and click on show more info. Click on the gear again and make the device a favorite.
Finally, trashing a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restarting frequently addresses similar issues.
Thanks for the hint, Barry. I've been having the same problem with my Magic Mouse, including it disconnecting in the middle of a session. I deleted the prefs file and it appears to have allowed it to be recognized quicker than before.
For others reading this, I have a more complex BT setup. I keep one Apple Mighty Mouse at the office and a Magic Mouse at home. You would think that it would switch back and forth between the two of them easily, but ever since I added the Magic Mouse, that hasn't been true!
Again, thanks for the hint. Let's see if the fix lasts!
Thanks for the suggestions. Was having the same issue on my MacBook Pro with MagicMouse, then added it to favorites and it started connecting. I also deleted the plist file as suggested, and it does seem to be establishing connection even faster. Thanks!
*From another user below:*
Bluetooth Preferences>click on mouse in list of devices>click on gear (prefs next to + and -)>click on gear again>Add to Favorites
