The "bad" thing, the driver will cost something. But you can try them for free.
As a follow up to my last post regarding the PIXMA iP4000 printer freezes with my Airport network I called Canon Tech support. The representative confirmed that none of the PIXMA printers will print reliably using Airport IUSB printer sharing. The representative told me that he has had problem reports from customers with all of the printers in this family. The symptom is as has been reported in this forum, the printer will occasionally stop printing in the middle of a print job and the only way to continue is to cancel the job and restart. I was told that if you want a networked printer you have to use the iP4000R which has it's own built in wireless card.

I had the same "stop printing" problem with my Canon i550 on AEBS. Today i found a driver on www.printfab.net. With this Driver installed my printer seems to work properly on AEBS. No stops at all!

Hmmm. I have a Canon PIXUS ip8600, which is the Japanese market version (upgraded) of the PIXMA iP8500. It works just fine with my AEBS. No problems yet. Have also had it connected directly to an iMac G5 and been able to access it from the iMac G5. The only thing I can't do while it is hooked to the AEBS is perform maintenance with the utility program -- for that, I have to connect the printer directly to one of the iMacs. But then my old Epson couldn't do that either when hooked to the AEBS.
Not surprising, Steve. I suspect Canon simply wants nothing to do with supporting network printing from a Mac to any of their printer models, and their tech support people have simply been instructed to say it either "doesn't work" or fall back on the usual excuse that "its not supported". If it happens to work as it does for you and many others - great! If it doesn't work - well, there isn't much you can do about it, other than paying more money for the third-party drivers provided by
PrintFab.
This may not be worth much, but this has been my experience.
My IP5000 printer worked flawlessly with my AEBS until I upgraded to Tiger and now it is broken altogether.
I've heard similiar stories from folks who upgraded to Tiger as well. Obviously, there are many variables but it seems to be universal for those with issues: upgrading to Tiger breaks Canon AEBS printing.
I hope someday we'll get a word from Apple about whether they view this as an issue or not.

Canon printers DO NOT work with AEBS - confirmed by Canon
