I wonder if there is any way to choose separate audio devices for audio input and output? I want to use one device for recording audio, and another one for playing it. A lot of audio software can do this, including the Mac os X system, so i suppose there is a way in logic too. I just can´t find out how...

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.2), I use Logic Pro 8

Set it up in the Mac OS X System using Audio MIDI Setup Utility (you're looking for "Aggregate Device").

This aggregate device will then be available to Logic.

NB Aggregate devices cause more computational overhead as CoreAudio has to arbitrate between the drivers.

Thanks! But the problem remains... The input sorce i want to use has outputs as well, and i can´t find a way to set what to use as output/input in the aggregate device, so my input device seems to be working both as audio in and out...

Is there an easy way to upgrade to logic 9 if you´ve got 8? Or do i have to buy it for full price as everyone else?

a) the aggregate device will consist of ALL inputs and all outputs of the devices taken together. If the first box has 8 outputs and you want you want channel 3 on the second, that's channel 11 of the aggregate device.

b) Logic studio 9 is a $200 upgrade. You might find it in the Apple online store, but they could have decided not to make their product info and pricing freely available on their website, just to make it difficult for you. One never can tell with Apple. 😉

Aggregate device.

Google it, read the manual, or search older posts in this forum.

It will solve your inquiry.

Also, you need to apply some active curiosity to the system you're using. A little reasoning while adjusting the aggregate device should reveal the solution you seek. Hand holding "tech support" via a forum is kind of do-able. But why bother for the minute details here when the solutions can be easily worked out by yourself?

The settings in the AD are pretty straightforward. Look at them again and see if you can't deduce the answer.
