Thanks for opening the new thread.

Well, I'm in the same position as everyone else ordering from a reseller. I ordered and PAID IN FULL on 23 Oct. The reason I ordered it so quickly after Apple has launched the product is to get the most recent technology available. Apple also has the tendency to update their iMacs every 6-8 months.

I am now told I'll be getting my iMac anytime between mid to end January 2010. This would mean that I have been waiting 3 months in total for a computer.

The problem now lies, do I go ahead with this order or wait another 3-4 months and get the updated model????

I am so frustrated that Apple have told me in person that priorities go to those who shop direct with Apple. Aren't resellers customers too?????

Thats my concern too I dont want a 3-4 month old computer, and 2-4 months down the track Apple does the updated version. I know I will never keep ahead of technology but at least I want to have the computer early in its short life...!

I guess when they bring out the next Imac there could be the same wait, but surely they will learn by this to stock up before release.

42 (the ultimate answer) days after my order I thought I'd try to contact Apple directly with the ultimate question "Where's my iMac?"

I found some email addresses on apple.com's Asia Pacific Marketing Resources page, so sent this email:

+Dear Apple Executives,+

+I am extremely disappointed with the current situation regarding my order of a iMac Core i7.+

+I placed the order with my local reseller, Phuket Alpha Engineering (Phuket, Thailand) on the 30th of October, 42 days ago. I knew I’d have to wait a while to receive it.+

+After I had seen reports that the machines were shipping I asked Phuket Alpha if they had a delivery date. The checked with Apple Thailand whose response was ‘soon’. A week or so later I inquired again, “There’s a shipment on its way”. A week later (and after much prompting) the response was “Sorry we don’t know.”+

+I’m frustrated by the lack of communication from Apple to my reseller.+

+And I’m frustrated that people who placed their order directly with the Apple Store, much later than my order, have already received their machines. Are you no longer interested in supporting your resellers? I’ve been using Macs for 20 years and have purchased over 60 machines in that period (and encouraged numerous people to switch), all through your authorised resellers who have provided great service.+

+So please, could someone let me or my reseller when my iMac will be here.+

+Kind regards,+

StJohn

But then got this:

+The original message was received at Fri, 11 Dec 2009 10:34:02 0800 (SGT)+
+from mail-in.asia.apple.com [17.82.254.6]+*
+----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----+

So even more frustrations, perhaps I'll try writing to Santa next.

If you wanted a high demand item quickly, you should have ordered directly. Just like every other company in existence, Apple has a much greater interest in supplying its direct customers before getting around to the folks who are buying the computers below the minimum advertised price.

Sir, I take exception to your comment and find it offensive. There are those of us on this forum who purchase via an AAR -- Authorized Apple Reseller -- because we have no other choice. In our case, for years Apple has refused to deal with us directly for whatever their reasons. Those of us who purchase via an AAR consider ourselves dedicated, loyal Macintosh users just like everyone else here.

In my case, I have been a dedicated Mac user for almost 20 years, and have invested thousands and thousands of dollars in Apple products. I -- and others like me here -- deserve equal treatment, respect and service from Apple, in a timely fashion.

I don't know the source of your information, but purchasing via an AAR does not necessarily equate to a cheaper price. Again, speaking for myself, my unit -- a 27" 2.8 GHz iMac with a 2 TB hard drive and 8 GB of RAM -- cost just over $3,000.00.

My $3,000.00 is just as good as someone who purchases online or via an Apple Store, yet I have to wait weeks and weeks for my original order, while some here are already on their 2nd or 3rd replacement. Something is seriously wrong with this picture.

Of course, in all fairness, I should also add that the long wait may end up being a blessing in disguise if my unit is built later, and turns out to be problem free.

Good on you!!! I totally agree. I paid over $3000 for my computer with the same configuration as you and find it unfair I have to wait for 3 months and paid for it in advance.

If this computer does not rock up in January, I'm cancelling my order and will wait for the updated model.

It is a blessing in disguise as we both hope we will get a fault free computer.

nrubinstein,

Like a lot of others, I ordered a quad core i7, 2.8GHz, 8 GBs ram(4x2) thru an authorised apple
re-seller on 28th Oct. At that time everyone was advised that these machines would be shipped
in Nov. It made no difference at the time how an order was placed.
It was not until a few weeks had elapsed that rumours became rife of how Apple were treating
people who had placed orders.
Enquiries often led to tales of; not enough machines, difficulty in obtaining certain parts, its now being shipped, to a lot of other so called "lies" even from Apple staff telling different excuses.
Only now has it become official policy for apple to fulfill on-line store orders at the expense of
other orders which many people are finding so frustrating. Why? - our money is just the same
as people who ordered direct and in my case I paid in full up-front.
If we were to have known how apple would treat us, I, and a lot of others would have cancelled the orders and gone direct. As it is at the moment, some cannot cancel their orders without some penalty
being applied.
Its about time Apple began treating those customers on an equal footing and not looking after themselves.

I have been following this topic for a while now and just wanted to add my info to it. I ordered my iMac i7 from the Online Apple Store on November 27 at 7:20 pm. I live in France and had to change the keyboard from a French to English so my order was considered a customized order. My original ship date was the 11th of December with a delivery date of the 17th. I got a notification today (the 9th) that it has shipped and I should get it on the 16th.

When I woke up this morning and checked the UPS tracking site I was quite surprised to see that my iMac i7 was Out for Delivery.

I am proud to announce that it has arrived in perfect health, is gorgeous and well worth the wait that I had. BTW it arrived for me on the date it was originally supposed to ship.

Finally there seems to be a solution for me, my reseller called this morning and they have i5 (standard models) in stock so he will upgrade ram (i asked 8Gig) and some other things, and this means I will probably have my 27" i5 next week. So I would like to thank them especially because those people realy have hard times with this situation but at least they are helping me to get my iMac.
So e special word of thanks for the good people at the premium reseller store!
I realy hope for them apple will not repeat this excercise because this is harming them (the resellers)

hi,
which reseller did you go to in Belgium?
I haven't heard mine yet, but I was in Mediamarkt today and couldn't resist asking when they would expect the quad cores. And he said they already got those since last week, in small amounts but they had the i5's in store then, and he expected them to arrive in small amounts again the next days.

Note: this were the standard packages ofcourse, no upgraded RAM and such. Did you initially ask for another keyboard or did you keep the original one? Just to check if there's a chance they call me with a simular deal?
