Some messages could not be imported

I have archived some very large Mail mailboxes.

When I try to import, I often get a message "some messages could not be imported." And the result is a partially imported mailbox - generally missing specific contiguous periods.

Luckily for me, I did not delete the original mail before testing.

When I archive my Mail mailboxes in smaller pieces (i.e., by using Smart Mailboxes covering shorter periods of time) - I have no problem importing these archived files - albeit in separate mailboxes v one large one.

Anyone know why I might have a problem importing the larger archives?

Is there a size limit I of which I should be aware?

Any fix i.e., so I can archive and later be able to import large mailboxes?

rebuild the mailbox you are archiving before archiving it. other than this there is really no failsafe you can use with 'archive mailbox' feature. Mail can easily get confused when handling huge numbers of emails so archiving smaller numbers might be the thing to do. you can also reimport the archive right after you made it to see if it imports correctly.
