iphone storage

most of the storage capacity of my iphone is marked as other when you look at it in itunes. What is this, and how can i regain some of this space?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Most likely that's corrupt data from an app. You can try syncing, sometimes that will get rid of it, if not restore your phone from a backup. Follow the directions here:
