iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found - QTCF error popup - can't open iTunes

Hi, whenever I try to open iTunes I also get this message:

iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found

The procedure entry point QTCF_CFUniCharGetUnicodePropertyDataForPlane could not be located in the dynamic link library QTCF.dll

I've tried uninstalling iTunes then reisntalling, uninstalling Quicktime, rebooted and I still get the same problem. I also moved QTCF.dll into iTunes. Still get the same error. I also tried a system restore, and I STILL get the same error.

I tried removing everything and turing off my antivirus and I still get this message and my iTunes does not work. Also when the message comes on it will not go away until I re-start my system. Any help out there on this???

Thanks.

That one is usually caused by and old copy of QTCF.dll that has been misplaced on the system. (Usually the lurker is down in system32, but it can show up in other locations as well.)

First we'd better find all the misplaced QTCF.dlls on your system, and confirm that you've currently got one in the right place.

Go "Start > Search". Click "All files and folders". Click "More advanced options." Make sure that "Search system folders," "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search subfolders" are all checked.

Now search on QTCF.dll. Post back to let us know what copies of QTCF.dll you find, and what shows up under "In folder" next to each copy.

🙂 Excellent news, Tim.

I found the file QTCF.dll in C:\WINDOWS\system32.
I renamed it e.g.QTCFx.dll

Yes, that's a classical location for a misplaced QTCF.dll. (How exactly they're getting there on people's systems is a bit of a mystery ... the iTunes/QuickTime installer bundles don't put them there.) It's perfectly fine to delete that copy of QTCF.dll in system32 altogether.

Hey,

I think I have the same problem as everybody else asked. My iTunes was working just fine before I received my new iPod Touch.

So I followed the instructions and downloaded the newest version of iTunes like it told me, but after I did that, When I would attempt to get on iTunes an iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not found messege would come up. And it says The procedure entry point sqlite3 preparev2 could not be located in the dynamic link library SQLite3.dll.

So i went ahead and tried downloading it again, but that didn't work. So I tried uninstalling iTunes then turned off my computer, then tried reinstalling it. and it still didn't work.

So then I just tried to search for the file SQLite3.dll. but never found it. So if you could help me, I would greatly appreciate it.

That's a different one, smyth. At the moment, you could try bas iam's workaround from the following post:

... however, this could possibly cause trouble in its own right next time you upgrade iTunes, given that there will be a misplaced, older SQLite3.dll in system32 ... So be sure to remember you've got that dll down there, and if you get an odd message about SQLite3.dll when you try launching iTunes *after your next iTunes upgrade,* delete the old copy of the dll in system32 and see if you get a normal launch without it there.

I'm having this problem and searched (Vista search function with "Everwhere" selected), but only one QTCF.dll file was found, in folder QTSystem (C:\Program Files\QuickTime).

That's in the right location, so you were quite right not to delete that one.

Doublechecking something. On a Vista box, when I search for a file like that, I open "Computer" and type QTCF.dll in the Search box. When it tells me I can't find it, I click Advanced, select the "search hidden, non-indexed and system files (may be slow)" box, and then wait for an eternity until the green progress bar up on the top of the "Computer" window has *completely disappeared.*

Did you do that? (Just doublechecking to make sure the search actually completed for you ... I've seen an incomplete search catch out someone with misplaced QTCF.dlls before in this way.)

Thank you!! I had tried this search several times, and had also looked for System 32 manually, to no avail. After getting your reply I tried the search several more times but Explorer kept crashing (gotta love Vista). I then downloaded a Vista update. After running the advanced search a few more times, it finally found the extra copy in System 32. iTunes is back. We really appreciate your help.

Apologies for the nosy question, but which update was that one? (Have seen a few other cases where it looks like Vista just isn't finding stuff for people ... it'd be useful if we could try that update in those cases.)
