Eliminating Dial Up Connections

I am running a G4 with OS 10.4.11. I live remote and use dial up to connect to the internet. Presently when I bring up Internet Connect I have 8 different dial up numbers. Over the past few years 4 of the numbers have been discontinued. I would like to remove them.....but find no way to do so.

I have gone to system preferences>network and look. I can add new dial up numbers, but cant find a way to edit the existing info to get rid of 4 unused numbers.

Can someone give me a pointer where this info is kept and how to remove the unused numbers.

Thank you
Paul

Odd that you can have more than, say, two at a time.
That I've never done that, given very limited access,
does not mean you can't have twenty zillion options!

Mine has not been set up for a few years, so there are none
present in the System Preferences> Network> Network Port
Configurations> Internal Modem> settings.

So, without that in use, the Internal Modem in mine no longer
appears in the list of active items (unless I checkbox it & click
on the Apply button) & then access to change settings appears.

There is a main number (blank) and a secondary (also blank.)
To add a number, click in box and keyboard it in; to remove a
number, drag through the existing with mouse & hit Delete key
in the standard keyboard selection (not delete/box key) and
that would normally be the way to add/remove phone numbers.

This is rather basic, when it works. Simple.

Maybe there is an option to add âž• and subtract(-) from the list.

And if traveling or have several different Locations set up, then
you could have other numbers or access points covered; be it
for wireless or other network sets you may use.

The Mac OS X Help viewer in the menu bar should list some
content on this issue; probably the basic information. That can
at times attempt to connect to the Apple Support help, so it
could be slow to respond if Help tries getting internet content.

Though I did not look deeply (and have never had more than
two numbers per Network for dialup internet) the Apple Support
home page for Tiger 10.4 may be a place to look for articles:
http://www.apple.com/support/tiger/

Several promising leads appear when I chose to Search in the
Apple Support Tiger 10.4 with ' +*Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger dialup*+ '
entered into the search box, from the above page link...

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂

Oh. That "Internet Connect."

Such a simple thing, that I never bothered
changing the settings there; since the main
Network> configurations panel is primary
to changing dialup and other account access.

Then, I went to using an AEBS with 56k dialup
modem feature, to connect several Macs to a
single provider, in the semi-remote area I live.
With ADSL and newer lines replacing old solid
copper, the dialup is not at all workable now.
But the AEBS works well with ADSL.

+So, I never had to set anything new via Internet Connect!+

The two dialup numbers are still in the system
in case I need to call in via dialup, in addition to
the DSL account setup. Wired & wireless. Simple.

{Clearly, I did not understand the question!}

In any event...
Good luck & happy computing! 🙂

Dial up is a real challenge. I have always only had a dial up connection, connecting at best is 24.4K with sometimes a lot of disconnects. My only choice would be satellite, but that would require a major logging operation as I am deep in the forest. I dont want to scalp a corridor out of the forest for a Sat Shot.
If I really need broadband, I can go to the village library which is a 30 mile round trip arrrrg ! My big complaint, everyone, including Apple, thinks the world is all high speed. Many sites are useless as they want to load to much stuff, and Hi Res pictures.
My only hope is someday. Broadband imposed on the power lines will come to this area. I am lucky, I know of one person that connects at 14.4K (dont laugh) ha ha ha ha

Phone lines are quite flaky here, I sometimes only get 9,600 Baud.

I normally disable Flash, Java, JavaScript, use Firefox with No-Script & Adblock Plus, & in a pinch, I use Lynx, a text only browser...

And Lynxlet...

Incredibly fast at 9,600 Baud if you can deal with it. 🙂
