Problem with 1and1 email account

Hello,
I just got an iphone and am trying to set up my 1and1 email account.

It seems like it works, but only 4 out of hundreds of messages actually show up on my phone. And they are from different people, at different times - nothing special about the 4 messages.
I have the incoming host as:
imap.1and1.com

outgoing as smtp.1and1.com
I have tried the port as 143, which was the default, and as 587, which I saw on some help thing online. Whenever I use 587, however, it switches back to 143.

I know I can set up a gmail account and send it through this account, but I'd really rather just have it sync with my outlook.

Can anyone help?

1&1 require a username for sending AND receiving, so u need to set that. Under Advanced settings turn on SSL under SMTP and then set authentication to password. The username is your normal email address and password the same as your POP or Webmail.

I am using this all the time, works a treat.

Thank you for your response. I did this and it worked for all of my sent items - they are now in the phone. But I still get only the 4 random messages in my inbox. Any other thoughts? Thank you!

I realized what these 4 messages have in common: They were all received when my computer (and Outlook) was turned off! Those messages are on the iPhone but not my Outlook. I cannot find a solution to this - my email is IMAP, which I think shouldn't have this problem? I can only find solutions on Apple Support for POP issues in which the emails go only to one or the other device.

Any thoughts?

Possibly ur outlook is setup as pop, not imap. Can you check those settings. Think ur iPhone settings are probably good.

Hi,

It is definitely set up as imap. I just called customer support and they said that some isp's just don't allow two sources to access email - it doesn't sound right, but ?

All fixed - apparently I had rules in outlook in which my email was going to the general outlook inbox, rather than the IMAP inbox for that account. I had no idea!
