Logic Pro 9- Apple loops problem

Hello,
Being a novice in Logic Pro 9, today I have encountered an unexpected trouble. While I was using apple loops and listening to them ( in this " compose area" ) I did some misclicks and all the loops disappeared. I tried everything, as I thought they had vanished just because I hid them. But when I opened a new project, a notice popped up " There are no apple loops installed on your System. Please reinstall the apple loops package". So I checked the library/audio/apple/loops and honestly nothing was there. Is it true that the only thing i can do is to reinstall? And tell me please, which dvd I have to use? I mean on which dvd can I find " Loop package" . I'll be very glad if you help me.

Best regards,
Tom Chrost

Actually the folder at HD>Library>Audio>Apple Loops isn't empty - I was looking in the wrong place (new to Macs and Logic). Anyway, so all the loops are still on my drive, but as far as Logic is concerned, they've disappeared. There must be a way of telling Logic where the loops are? I am not a novice with DAWs, just this one, and what would be an easy task on Cubase, is causing me a headache here. I cannot find any reference in the help pages for directing the path for loops. I do not want to do re-install the loops because they are already there. Can anybody tell me how to solve this?

Thanks

I've managed to solve my own problem so I thought I'd post this in case anybody else has the same problem. With a bit of forum searching I found that if you first check that the folder at /Library/Audio/Apple Loops Index is empty (mine was - if it isn't then dump the search index files in the trash), you can then open Logic, open Finder, direct Finder to /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/ and then drag the Jam Pack folders into the Logic Loop Browser. All my loops were then restored.

I have had the same problem, but I can't quite follow your solution pathway, because the folders don't correspond to what you describe. I installed Logic 9 on a Macbook. Any audio content that I could install on my external harddrive I did so.

As a result, on my *external drive* there are two new folders, _Apple Loops for Soundtrack Pro_, and Library. Inside Library there is a folder called Receipts, and inside that are 18 files with either .plist or .bom extension.

Inside the folder Apple Loops for Soundtrack Pro there are 5 folders called Apple Loops, Associated Production Music, Detroit Chop Shop, Power FX Loops & Sound Ideas. Inside Apple Loops there various folders with artists names on, and if you keep opening the folders from there you get to lots of .caf files

Going back to the *internal drive* on the computer, inside Library/Audio/Apple Loops there are Garage Band and JamPack folders. The folder Library/Apple Loops Index is empty.

So what do I do to be able to see the Apple Loops again? I had only spent 30 mins working through the first bit of the booklet "Exploring Logic Pro" than the loops all seemed to disappear and a message came up telling me to reinstall them. Very frustrating! Can anyone help?

I found a solution by ringing Apple Support. They said the most likely problem was that I was running out of space on my hard drive. So I have deleted inessential programs, moved all documents and movies to my external hard drive, deleted the JamPack files (I already had the Apple Loops on my external drive), then I reinstalled the audio content, making sure that it all went on the external drive. It took a bit of time, but when I opened up Logic just now all the loops were there.

Hi There, I just fixed this particular problem for a friend. She had all her loops on an external and like the others say here, Logic was saying "no loops found in the system". For those with external hard drive set ups just do this:

1. Open a new project
2. Open finder and locate your apple loops
3. drag just 1 loop into the browser
4. you will be asked 3 things because Logic will say "this loop already exists" 1. cancel operation, 2. rename loop or 3.replace existing one

5 you need to select option 3, that is, replace existing one with new one and wait a bit.
6. All your loops will be located.

You need to repeat this for the soundtrack pro loops (just drag 1 in)

This appears to help Logic locate them by responding to your action. Must be a bug.

Thanks so much to all of you - I did the same thing and am now back up and running. I think I have all the loops that were originally there:

-Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/apple loops for garageband
-Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/ilife sound effects
-Audio/Apple Loops/Apple loops for soundtrack pro/apple loops/ "lots of different folders with peoples names as the title"
-Audio/Apple Loops/Apple loops for soundtrack pro/power effects loops/ "more folders with genre types"
-Audio/Apple Loops/Apple loops for soundtrack pro/Sound ideas/ "more folders with types"

If any one knows that I am missing more I'd appreciate a shout - nothing ended up in the trash can so i guess that should be it.

Thanks again.

THE ANSWER IS YES YES IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH LOOSING YOUR APPLE LOOPS OR OTHERS

WHAT YOU WILL HAVE TO DO IS FIRST OPEN UP LOGIC AND CLICK TO SEE IF YOU HAVE ALL OF THE LOOP LIBRARY ADDED ON THE CLICK TO SHOW ALL TAB IF NOT GO TO YOUR MAIN/ HD/ APP/ LIBRARY/AUDIO/APPLE LOOPS/ AND FIND OUT OF THE ONES YOUR MISSING FROM YOUR SHOW ALL TAB AND DRAG ON ANY FOLDER THATS NOT IN YOUR SHOW ALL TAB AND DROP IT IN THE LOOPS AREA IT MAY TAKE A WHILE THIS HERE WILL REDIRECT ALL OUT OF PLACE LOOPS AND CONTENT

BUT FIRST REMBER TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS BEFORE AND AFTER ALL CHANGES OF ANY SOFTWARE AND/OR MODS YOU ARE DOING WITH A APPLE COMPUTER/VIP NOTE THERE....
