iphone camera roll file name problem

alright...i think i've looked all over the internet on forums and could not find a solution. if anyone has any advice on this issue...PLEASE share.

so...for some unknown reason, the images on my iphone started back at IMG_0001.jpg. This causes problems when i want to upload the pictures into a folder on my computer, since earlier images have the same names as the new ones i've taken.

does anyone know of a way to set the file name of the images in my camera roll (ex: IMG_9055.jpg) so that the images taken after it would pick up from that specific number (ex: IMG_9056.jpg, IMG_9057.jpg, etc...)?

There doesn't seem to be a way to reset the file names. What you can do is either rename the files on your computer or import the photos into a new folder on the computer. Another option:Most photo management apps will append a number to the end of the file name to make it unique when importing duplicate file names. for example, IMG_0001(1).img

the photo app that I use on my computer, Google's Picasa, creates a new folder each time I import photos, so there is never a conflict.

mongchacha I totally agree with you over this issue.

If it were possible from within the iphone settings for photo filenames to be changed from the default IMG_0001.jpg to something more unique or date based it would help many users who currently use one or more digital cameras, and in turn, save them from accidentally overwriting existing photographs.

Apart from which, even a simple change of the default filename from IMG_0001.jpg to iphone 3gs_img0001.jpg would be a free advert for the Apple iPhone.

I'm sorely tempted to take a look at the iPhone developers kit to see if this option to modify the iphone photo filename could be added to an app.
