Power Adapter for 2007 black MacBook

Hi everyone,

My dog chewed my power cord for my 2007 black MacBook, and I need to buy a new power adapter. I went to Best Buy (since it's much more convenient than the Apple Store to my house), and after the sales guy talked to three or four different tech people, they told me that the power adapters they had in stock would only work with the new MacBooks, and definitely not with the old ones. Is that true? What adapter do I need for the old black MacBook? I'm not sure that the people at Best Buy know what they're talking about. Thank you!

They don't know what they're talking about.

Here's the adapter for you machine:

Take a look at the info in the above link, then head back to the store and compare the adapter they have to the one in the link.

The 85watt version, which is designed for the 15" and 17" MacBook Pros will also work with your computer.

Thank you! I had a sneaking suspicion that the ones on their shelf would have been fine, especially after seeing that the Apple website had the same exact ones only. Is there any advantage of getting the 60W vs. the 85W? Thanks again for your help!

Not really. The 85w adapter will work with the 15" and 17" MacBook Pros, in addition to working fine with the 13" Pro and white MB. If you don't think you'll be purchasing a MBP at any time in the future, the 60w adapter will be fine.
