Using Handbrake to Edit Home Movies

I recently had a home video transferred to DVD and would like to edit it on my Mac, but the DVD uses PC software called Digital Scrapbook that Macs don't have. I think I can use the third-party software Handbrake to convert the contents of my DVD into an MPEG-4 file, but I can't figure out how to do it. Any step-by-step instructions out there someone could point me to? Thanks!

I'm not sure that I entirely understand what you mean here. Is this an actual video DVD, that can be played in any DVD player and when inserted in the Mac will play in the DVD Player application? If so, Handbrake should be able to do what you want.

If, on the other hand, this is a data DVD ( not a video DVD) written by Digital Scrapbook, and that data is only readable by Digital Scrapbook, then there's not much we can tell you. You would probably need Digital Scrapbook to export the video in some more friendly format.

How/why did it wind up in iTunes? You should be able to open iMovie, start a new project and import the Video - I have never put a video in iTunes, so I'm not sure if that'll work. However, you could also try to save as or export the video out of iTunes and save it to your desktop or the folder "Movies". Then you can import it into iMovie. Hope that helps. For future projects, you may want to change your save to preferences to put things where it'll be easier to get to them.
