Touch wifi not connecting

I recently updates the iPod software version to 3.1.2 After doing this, my iPod no longer wants to connect to wifi sources that it one did with ease. Anyone out there know why this could be?

Macbook Pro, iPod Touch, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

To both of you with WiFi problems:

Several things that you will want to try:

1. Power cycle your router - ie. unplug the power feed
2. Reset the network settings on your touch - tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
3. Use the following steps to log onto your network - tap Settings > WiFi > Other and type in your network name (aka SSID and it is case sensitive), your security type, and your network password.

If you think you are connected, tap Settings > WiFi > and then tap the little blue > next to your network name. You should have the following fields filled in - Your IP address, your subnet mask, your router's IP address, and the DNS IP addresses. If you are missing anything, write back.

The other two tips are: make sure your router is not broadcasting in N mode only as your touch is b/g modes only. And if you are using WEP, consider changing to WPA-psk or WPA2-psk. If you do stick with WEP, use the hex key listed in the Key1 field as your password.

OK, my router is only a b/g type (not n), using wpa security. I do not have ip address, subnet mask, router ip address or dns ip address in the feilds on the ipod. It will connect with router security off (can't leave it this way, had a problem in the past). Have tried resetting roter and ipod, still no luck. Have tried other security settings, also no luck.

It's time to visit your router maker's website and locate, download, and install the latest firmware for your router. Once you have done that, reset the iPod network settings - tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. When your iPod restarts, tap Settings > WiFi > Other and re-enter your network name (SSID), security setting, and password.

That should fix it as 3.x doesn't seem to work well with older iterations of router firmware.

Hi, I'm a new ipod owner or user. I have a 32G 2nd generation Ipod touch and I can't log into my wi fi I have at home. I tried doing everything you guys said here. Resetting the router and resetting the network settings. Changed to WPA2-PSK as well. The ipod recognizes the network as it is in the list when i go to wi-fi but I can't log in. I click the > but there is no IP or Subnet mask or anything under my network. I went onto my Router Manager thing. Typed in the IP and the subnet mask as well and did everything but it just wont let me connect. It keeps saying "unable to join the network __." It's getting really frustrating. Can anyone help me out here please? I would had made a new topic but there are so many out there of the same proportion so yeah. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. I'm using NETGEAR router WGR614 v7.

What firmware version are you running on the router? Netgear's website states: WGR614v7 Firmware Version 2.0.30 is the latest and greatest. If you don't have it installed, start there.

WPA2 passwords are case sensitive. Hope you remembered that entering your password.

Here's how I would proceed:

1. update the router firmware
2. reset the network settings on the touch (tap Settings > General > Reset >Reset Network Settings)
3. Log into your network using Settings > WiFi > Other and re-entering your network name, encryption (_do not_ select WPA2 enterprise), and re-enter you password.

If you are still having problems, make sure that MAC address filtering is off on the router.

Problem solved! I reset (as in completely deleted all the routers settings) and started from scratch after downloading the latest firmware. Also passwords with anything other than numbers and letters seem to confuse the iPod's wifi ability to join a network. Hope this helps the others who are having the same problem.
PS: My router is a Linksys WRT54G 8.0
