Hello Angel.

You may have to give some more information about what exactly doesn't work, ie the printer is seen in the Default Add Printer view but when selecting it the Print Using menu never finds the Canon driver...

Also, the Gutenprint drivers mentioned in the other reply will not be much help to you. Your MP470 is not listed as a supported model and you can spend a lot of time and paper/ink trying to find a model of Canon printer that is supported that works correctly with your printer.

There is another printer driver package called PrintFab which does list your MP470 as a supported printer, however there is a cost involved with getting this driver package, so it would be ideal if we can get your free Canon driver working.

Hi Angel,

If the printer is connected to the Mac via USB cable, then you should not have to select the MP470. The Print Using menu should automatically change to the MP470 when the printer is connected or when you select to Add via the Default browser view.

If you do have the MP470 connected via USB cable and the Print Using fails to change when you select the MP470 in the Default browser view, then try the following steps.

1. Open Printer Setup Utility, click on Printer Setup Utility and select Reset Printing System.
2. Close the Printer Setup Utility.
3. Go to Library > Printers > Canon and delete the contents of the BJPrinters folder.
4. Go to Library > Receipts and delete the file Canon MP470 xxx.pkg
5. Empty the Trash
6. Unplug the Canon USB cable and restart the Mac
7. If you don't already have v6.93 of the MP470 driver, then download it from a Canon web site and install.
8. Once the driver installation is complete, go to Applications > Utilities and open Disk Utility. Run the Repair Disk Permissions option.
9. Open Printer Setup Utility and click Add.
10. Select the Default Browser view and select the Canon printer connected via the USB port. The Print Using menu should automatically change to Canon IJ Printer.
11. Click Add to add the printer.

One final note. If you do browse the list of printer after selecting Canon you will not find the MP470, you mostly only find older models of Canon supplied drivers and some Gutenprint drivers in the list.

Thank you SO MUCH for your help, Pahu!

Interestingly enough, there was nothing in my "Printers" folder, and there wasn't even a "Receipts" folder, either. I emptied out my trash, and followed your steps from there on out. Now it works fine! I just received the CD-ROM to install the drivers but it wasn't working properly, and kept telling me the installation failed.

Glad to see this works!
