ipod nano is corrupted, itunes says it can't restore it. HELP!

I have tried the "5 R's" that the support page recommends. I am not sure what putting the ipod into disc mode accomplished but, I am wondering what else I can do.

My itunes lost a lot of its content (at some unknown point) and itunes doesn't recognize it so, i have no way of updating it. Although, it can be charged.

Can anybody help me?
