Play music on iphone through bluetooth in car

Can I play music stored on my iphone through the bluetooth in my car? It is paired and I can use the phone - no problems there.

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.4.11), New hard drive installed 3 months ago

That depends on if your stereo supports the A2DP protocol for stereo music playback. The head unit may support the profiles to support calls but not the profile to support stereo music.

Check the manual.

If your car unit has Bluetooth with A2DP and you have an iPhone 3G or 3GS (not original iPhone) with OS version 3.x, you should be able to play music. Most hands free car units only have HFP for telephone use.

and whether Apple has properly implemented A2DP. My iphone 3gs will not stream to my Blaupunkt MP68 (though it works fine with the other phones i've tried).

I've sorted this to an extent. It seems if iPod is 'running' - ie i've played a tune and hit pause - it will connect to the head unit and start playing automatically. If i've not "run" iPod since switching the phone on then it's not possible to select 'streaming' on the Blaupunkt.

It's good enough but I'm sure it's not how it's meant to work.
