Can't change order of songs in playlist.

For some reason, in iTunes 9.0.2 I can no longer rearrange the order of songs in playlists. (Not smart playlists) Help tells me to click the number column, and to be sure shuffle is off. I did that and still cannot rearrange the order. Also, I cannot drag new songs into a playlist. I can right click on a song and send it to a playlist from the drop down menu, but not drag it there. What the **** is going on? Does anyone have an answer to this? This has got to be a bug.

You CAN fix it. It was bugging me for a while too.

Go to the first column in the playlist, with the play order in it, and click on the heading section of that column. You will then see a click sort up arrow (toggles to down arrow on next click).

You will also notice that you can now drag and drop the order again.

This is triggered off in the first place when you click sort on another column.

Tazzy, my problem went away. I have no idea why. I shut my computer down last night, and when I opened it this morning, iTunes worked the way it should. I frequently just put it to sleep at night, and restart 1 or 2 times during the week. I hadn't shut down for a couple of days, and I guess the restart fixed it.
Worth a try for you.

I'm having the same issue. (Trying to order tunes for a Christmas CD for the car.)
Shuffle is off. Number column is selected for sorting. Rebooting didn't help.
Mac. 10.5

This appears to be a new problem.

Oddly, it only appears to be problem for some playlists...
{Shuffles off to check some more possibilities}
Can't pin down the cause, but I have a workaround.

1) Select the number sorting column in the main iTunes window
2) Create a new playlist
3) Name and double-click to open the new playlist in a new window
4) Select your problem playlist in the main iTunes window
5) Select All, and drag your tunes to the new playlist

Just selecting everything and choosing New Playlist from Selection didn't work for me.

I had more or less the same mystery as well. I didn't know that turning "Shuffle" off on the bottom of the source panel (left-most panel that shows all the play lists was relevant, but it is. Thanks for the thread and the tips guys.

For those of us who still have the problem even after turning off Shuffle and after a reboot, my sympathy. the next step of things to do after a reboot does not restore good order is usually to check and repair disk permissions, and then to get a Mac service call at the Genius bar - unless you have a support policy in effect.
