can't delete SD card error code -61

Hi - I've done a lot of searching on this and still can't solve the problem.

I have a new 16 GB SD card that I formatted on my Canon camera. I can pull the pictures off with no problem, but when I go to erase, I get "error code -61" I know this is a write permissions error - and when I Get Info, it's not locked but it does say I can "only Read" under Write Permissions so I understand that this is the problem.

I searched and everyone says that it's b/c something is formatted NTFS but it's not, it says FAT32. But, it does say MS-DOS (FAT 32) if that makes a difference?

I used Disk Utility as everyone suggested. The Erase function is greyed out (and I'd prefer not to have to do that every time I take photos!)

Not sure what to do next? Is there a way to reformat the card?

Thanks for any help -

Give this a try, then:

Hard Drive Preparation

1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.

2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.

3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to MS-DOS. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to MBR then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.

That should do it.
