Unable to import music into iTunes

I installed iTunes today to my laptop, and I am trying to load songs onto it. It is not recognizing my CDs or other types of music. When I load a CD, it does not see it automatically. When go to File --> Add File to Library, it will not load the music even through this manual command.

I tried loading the music into my music folder in My Documents, but iTunes did not even recognize the music there.

I have used burned CDs from another iTunes computer, as well as store-bought CDs.
