iPhone playing weird church sound randomly

I know exactly what you are trying to say (I think). And I know what it is. Do you have Nimbuzz installed? If you have, that's the culprit. Nimbuzz keeps you log on even after you have closed the app so that people can still send you messages and it will push the messages to you. It will keep you logged on for the duration which you set (15 or 30 minutes) after you close it. And when it finally logs out of it, thats when you hear this weird church sound. If you jailbroke your iphone, you can SSH to your phone and find the file ./private/var/mobile/Applications/A72DBD5C-14CA-4418-BEA1-187D52F37AB3/Nimbuzz. app/signout.wav ; this file is the sound you're hearing (The A72DBD... part may differ on your iPhone).

Check all of your apps, there are apps in the app store that can cause this.

The iPhone includes a "Bell Tower" sound.

I checked the iPhone's Alarm feature and there is no setting to repeat an alarm every 4 hours or 4 times a day at a designated interval.

Have you hacked your iPhone - used jailbreak in order to install an app from an unofficial source that is not from the iTunes app store?

I d'ont think yours is possessed . Mine does the same with the "boing" sound: quiet for days and then will randomly "boing" once/multiple times with no detectable pattern. I've given up worrying about it.

Several of my apps have notifications that make noise--ESPN ScoreCenter, Sportstacular, eBay, and FML to name a few. You can see them under Settings->Notifications.

Not sure if this is what's causing it in this particular case, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Yep, our phones used to make a sound whenever there was new mail in our Yahoo accounts. We turned that off because it was annoying.

i have the same ANNOYING chimes sound! i def want to get rid of it. if anyone knows how to - let me know, PLZ!

i dont understand why this weird phone does this anyways!

I do receive such weird chimes too, about 45th minute of a random hour.

Please help.
