New Tab Recently not working

Previously when I press apple T a new tab/window opens no problem.
Within the past week or so, now when I do it the tab/window pops up "untitled" and blank and the one I had previously open reverts to "top sites".

My Mac is 3 months old. I've updated software and rebooted but to no avail. It's driving me nuts!
Why does my new tab not work on my mac now?
Thanks for any help!

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions!

Try Safari maintenance...

From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...

From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.

Also, if you are running Safari in 64 bit mode, try running in 32-bit mode instead. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure *Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.*

OK. So I'm back. Previously the issue resolved itself but alas, I'm here again. And it's so frustrating! Why do my tabs work fine one day and then the next day this? I know I haven't changed any settings.

When I click "New Tab" a tab/window pops up "untitled" and blank and the one I had previously open reverts to "top sites" and I lose the original site I was looking at.
I followed what Carolyn said on this page, updated software and restarted my computer and I still have this issue.
Any help would be appreciated.

HI,

Go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.

If that doesn't help, try booting in Safe Mode

What is Safe Mode

Note.. Booting in Safe Mode takes a little longer then a normal boot. This process empties caches that might be causing the problem.

I am having the same problem with my Mac Book Pro. The new tabs seem to work fine and with the same speed when I'm using my wife's account, but on mine it is slow and unreliable, like it can't handle more than one tab. I've tried everything people have posted here.

I've called my DSL provider and I am receiving fine. What's the problem? I have not changed or downloaded anything. Just started happening about a week ago. Help!
