LaCie vs. iomega!!

Hello all,
As you know, I have a powerbook G4 with a 60GB internal hard drive. But I have a small problem, the other day I had only 5MB left! I had to delete some stuff, and still now now, I don't have much place left. I was wondering if you guys could help me with picking an external hard drive. I'm currently looking between 2 models. The iomega Black Series 250GB triple interface and the LaCie d2 250GB with triple interface. The Lacie is 20$ more expensive. Witch one should I go for? Or am I looking too big? Should I also look at the same models with 160GB? I have no clue what to do.

Thanks a lot!!
Justin

Hi Justin,

I can only tell give you my suggestion based on experience. I have installed many LaCies as backup drives, and have had very few problems. Most issues are a result of years of non-stopped running. I have been using these drive since SCSI days, and trust them. However, I am only one person, perhaps I have been extremely lucky.

I hope this has been helpful.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

I, too, would recommend LaCie drives. They have been providing solutions for Apple users for years, with a great reputation. LaCie products typically give good value for a good price. As for size, only you can determine what your storage needs are/will be. Generally the best "value" is in the middle range of available sizes, so I wouldn't recommend the smallest or largest size drive unless you are sure that's what you want.

One interesting note, I heard on the KFI Tech Guy show podcast that the smaller hard drives in any category are more reliable than the larger drives in any category. I have had a Lacie 80gb usb 2.0 desktop drive for almost two years now and have had no problems with it. I am planning on getting a Lacie 160gb firewire drive sometime next year. Also, it looks like their silver drives will match well with powerbooks. Minimalist design and all.

Justin, Welcome, As all of the others have said Lacie, is one of the three are four that are considered top of the line.
You will find that all the Major Manufactures of External Drives make excellent products.
I on the otherhand have used I-Omega products for a little over 7 years and still have an old I-Omega Zip 250 that I have hundreds of gig's of data stored on disk.
This was my choice at the time, I liked the feature of drag and drop. If I were to buy a new one, it would be a tough choice, I'm glad it's your choice..and not mine
Good Luck...Don
