My Iphone screen went Black!!!HELP

I have an Iphone 3G, last night I was using it fine, the last thing I remember doing was loading a new APP, after about 1 hour I tried using the phone and the screen was black. I can still hear the alarms, the phone ringing but cant see anything... please help.

Iphone 3G, iPhone OS 3.1.2

Have you tried basics from the manual:

Restart?

Reset?

Restore?

Actually I cant do much because I cant see the display but I tried holding the home key and the power buttom for a while (to reset it) and nothing happeng, I think it restarts it because while connected to my laptop it dissapears from Itunes and comes back after a bit; I also restored it and nothing, now my 11:00 alarm is going off and I cant turn it off, I can only snooze it... 😟 Im desperate.
