Hi, Recenlty my apple tv, which works fine, has been making a vibrating noise. What are the possible sources of the sound. Is it most likely the fan? I believe the only moving parts are the fan and the hard drive. If the noise was from the hard drive it probably wouldn't work? It's 2 years old if that matters.
Thanks.
I opened it up last night. It was easy to do. It is the fan that makes the noise. I took it out and a bunch of dust came out.. it seemed to help and then it was making the noise again but not as bad then the noise went away. It's probably best to replace it. I ordered one already just in case.
unfortunately there's nothing you can really do as the appletv is a sealed unit.
if it's still under warranty then i would be taking it to your local apple store.
Could I ask where you ordered your replacement fan from? I have the exact same problem and am having trouble finding a replacement fan for my (out of warranty) apple tv.
Any help sourcing one would be greatly appreciated.
I too have the humming or buzzing noise. It was so loud, I thought my flat screen TV was defective and nearly had it ready to haul back to the store. Then realized it was the blazing hot, loudly humming apple tv box. After looking in vain for a power switch, I unplugged it.
Will Apple exchange while under warranty for this loud humming problem? I bought in in late December 09 and have had it shut off since January for fear of burning the house down from whatever is causing the heat and noise.
