I was recently given a unopened version of Final Cut Pro 3...If I install it is it possible to upgrade it to the current version? If so, is that complicated? Expensive? Anything else I should know?
Thanks,
Peter
If the license is for a full retail version (that is, NOT an Academic version, not an upgrade version or not a Not For Resale version), you can upgrade to Final Cut Studio 3 for $299. The details can be found on the Apple Final Cut Studio Store web pages.
Thanks. As it turns out it is an Academic single user version. Does this help my situation? interms of installable or upgradable (without additional payment)? It was never installed by the original purchaser.
As to whether it's the right editing package for you, what video format will you be working with?
Is that format covered by iMovie or another editing software and is its functionality enough?
What is your level of video editing experience?
For my part, I prefer Final Cut Studio and know it well. I have yet to see something that works better for my budget, expectations and needs.
If you mean Final Cut Pro version 3, it will not install on your computer, and even if it does install you should not use it with that OS. The gift unfortunately has no value to you.
Thanks again for your fast response. I am definitely a novice. This version is Final Cut PRO 3 not STUDIO 3. Is there a big difference? If I'm not doing this professionally, do you know if this is a version I can currently use w/ my system (below)? I've worked with iMovie and have to believe that this would be a little more comprehensive of a program. Thanks again for your help & patience.
