Vodafone 3G connection stats?

I've noticed a few posts by people using Vodafone 3G datacards.
Does the connection stats window work for you?
Mine records the time connected, but the sent/received bytes count always read 0.
I've spoken to both Vodafone and Novamedia, but no joy.
Seen a similar post on ifelix's site, but no solution.

Any thoughts?

Since my blog post I have done some more testing and mine seems to be working...

My latest test just now worked.

Two things to try.

In the Connections window click the reset button.

Before clicking Activate, change the Preferences in the Vodafone Mobile Connect software to Record Statistics.

I am running Version 10.3.9 and Version 2 of the Mobile Connect software.

If that does not work:

There are some third party utilties available to measure data, though you can also use Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor for the same purpose.

Hi Ifelix,

Yep both of those are set - I've also upgraded and re-installed the software but to no avail.
I think the stats worked one time when I first got the card - but never again.
Spoke to Vodafone "that feature isn't supported on mac", and novamedia "you'll need to talk to vodafone".

Have used activity monitor to count, but its a bit manual - it would be nice to have the stats all in one place, particularly as mobile connect is paid by data usage.

Other than that, I appreciate your reply - thought it was getting a bit lonely in the 3G/mac world 🙂

Another question

How do you stop the connection and reset the Mac back.

Do you turn off or something else?

I use Internet Connect to disconnect.

I then power off the 3G card.

I then change the Network settings back to Automatic.

I am lucky in that I am on the unlimited (read 1GB fair usage) account which is now a lot better value than it was. Originally £100 a month (with a 1GB limit), dropped to £75 pretty quickly, now only paying £45.

Hi Jean-Pierre,

I've the same problem as you. I received this week a "Vodafone Mobile Connect HSDPA/UTMS/EDGE datacard" from Vodafone (Germany).

I installed the last version of VMC (2.03.1 : from http://www.vodafone.de/hilfe_kundenservice/download/63052.html), but when I launch VMC : it also replies "No modem found" and the application quits. The model and the manufacturer is "Unknown"...
Because my OSX.4.5 is in French and I use a German network, I also tried to install VMC with my OS in German and with my OS in English. The result is the same : the card still be unknown.

The blue and pink leds blink together too. But for the blinking, I think that it's normal (written in the documentation of card).

The Vodafone Mobile Connect HSDPA/UTMS/EDGE datacard is a new card. I think that we've to wait for a new update of VMC. On this page ( http://www.vodafone.de/hilfe_kundenservice/download/63052.html), VMC seams to be only compatible with the "Vodafone Mobile Connect Card UMTS" and the "Vodafone Mobile Connect Card UMTS Novatel U630".

Monday, I'll go to Vodofone shop in order to obtain an "old" UTMS card which works under OSX.

I have one of the older Vodafone Mobile Connect GPRS cards and find that my connection stats window in their software only works, not to mention is only viewable, when I have an active connection using the card. Once I disconnect the window is gone. I've since made a mental note to check with MenuMeters…

… to monitor my traffic totals.

For the most part I use the Vodafone software, which is really the NovaMedia software as you know, to connect via my Vodafone supplied SE K700i using Bluetooth so the software is usless to me as well as it will only launch with a card installed and operative.
