Audio podcast pause/resume

Hi,

For some time now I have been experiencing the following problem:

When listening to a long audio podcast, if I pause playback when I am some way through (say 1/2 hour or more), it stops fine but when I go to resume it sits there for a long time (30-60+ seconds) before actually resuming playback.

Video podcasts, movies etc work fine. All aspects of syncing/streaming work fine (except that iTunes doesn't auto sync when new podcasts arrive grrr).

I have tried a factory reset several times, and tried playing back synced as well as streamed podcasts and get the same result.

If anyone has any ideas I would be interested to hear. Also, if anyone could confirm whether this behaviour is 'normal' or not I would be grateful.

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.

If content is halfway through being viewed and remember position is selected in itunes the tv may take a little longer when resuming rather than starting new content, however I wouldn't say the times you are experiencing are typical (they aren't for me anyway), are you sure it takes this long or does it just perhaps seem like it.

Thank you for your response Winston.

To answer your question I did another factory reset, update and re-sync followed by some more testing.

Today I got these results with an almost-2 hour podcast synced to the device:
15min: 5 seconds
30min: 11 seconds
60min: 22 seconds
90min: 32 seconds
115min: 41 seconds

So, it looks like I overstated the delay but these are still significant, especially when you are trying to skip forward or find a place in the podcast.

As it happens, this time when I changed the device into streaming mode there were no delays. This isn't very convenient as the computer needs to be running the whole time but it's better than the alternative.

I'd still like to use the device synced so if anyone has further ideas or comments they would be appreciated.

i have exactly the same issue. on any firmware greater than 2.3 seek time in podcasts, particularly mp3 files is terrible. i see performance like yours. aac files seem to be less effected. i have reverted back to 2.3 and then performance is fine. i assume that apple changed one of the quicktime components for some reason or there is a strange regression error.

please fix this apple. think of it as a christmas present to us all

Alley_Cat - thanks for the information about the update reminder.

As for synced vs streamed - the problem definitely occurs for me with synced podcasts. Previously, I have experienced the delay problem when streaming as well, but right now streaming seems to be working fine so that's how I'm using it. I'd prefer to sync but unless there is a solution it won't be possible for me.
