TI-89

I recently just bought a TI-89 calculator for school. I've been all over those websites, but they aren't helping.

It came with a USB/Serial cord, I guess? Or a USB/USB B? I don't really know what it is, but the computer won't recognize my calculator. It even says it is connected in the USB menu in the System Profiler.

I think the TI websites tell me that I need to buy some connector thing, which I don't believe I need to.

Anyone else connect their TI-89 to their computer?

Just to make sure is it the TI-89 Titanium and as far as I know the software they give for that calculator does not support tiger yet and that is the only thing I dislike about tiger or should I dislike TI for not making them compatible or not but Panther worked great with the calculator. they actually have a very good compatiblity with Mac OS but just not with tiger yet. I need it for my Physics and Calc. course. Here's a link to the website that shows the compatibility of the calculators with what cables and OS's so far and i was hopeing that they would have the tiger situation fixed by now but I was wrong. http://education.ti.com/us/product/accessory/connectivity/down/faqmac.html. TI Connect X is the name of the software that you need.

Good Luck with any math or sciences courses you may encounter, Kenny

FYI, I think the cable it comes with is USB/USB B, but I'm not 100% sure. In any case, it's possible that the calculator needs some sort of software to interact with your computer - I don't think you can use it's memory as storage. Chances are this software will be windows only, but you can then try to use Virtual PC (if you have it). I'm curious to know what you find out since I'm planning on get my own TI-89 in the near future. Hth

I, too, purchased the TI-89 and it is doing the same thing. I had a PB G3 Pismo that I installed the software too, and it would not recognize the calc. No matter what I did, it just wouldn't connect. On my Windows machine, it works flawlessly. I have no idea why it would not recognize mine. I am now on my new Powerbook, and have thought about going through the installation process to see if it will work on this one. But in my past experiences, if it doesn't work on one, it won't work on the other. What I mean by that, is that my G3 Pismo was running OS X.4.2 as my new PB is running Tiger. Maybe TI needs to update TI-Connect to be able to run on Tiger.
