Flashed GeForce 7800GTX

My flashed 7800 GTX is showing as a Quadro FX 4500. I know this is not the card I have, so I was wondering if I needed to add some sort of driver or something to it. I also noticed that since I put it in, iStat won't load the temperature thing.

First part is good, second part is likely a byproduct of it...

For those of you who have a 7900GTX 512 PCIe here is an early easter present by flashing the card with this rom, your mac & Windows will see the card as a Quadro FX 5500. As you will see below this increases the speed of the card again, take a look at Open GL Viewer above (when the card was a 7900GTX & below as a Quadro FX 5500 512. This just means your card is using a better open GL engine. Download the rom to the left. To the right is a rom that will change a BFG 7800 GTX 512 PCIe to a Quadro FX 4500 512 (See pic at bottom of page)

Thanks DPArt, I agree. I have obtained the correct GTX 512 ROM and the card runs like the wind.

+With your permission, I would happy to share it with Compactc9.+

While we're at it, is there any chance of getting a copy of the GTX 256MB ROM by chance?

I assume the 7800GT OEM Rom will work, but not without crippling it?

Cheers, R.

Works a treat in Tiger....but not so well in Leopard.> DPArt wrote:

Thanks DPart, no problems here, the plans I have are for a Tiger machine anyways.

I think you may have tried to contact me through Strangedogs...I will dig it up if you want,

I would indeed appreciate that.

After much anguish and experimentation I'm not sure I have what it takes to edit ROMS. ;(

As for profiteering, I've no interest in any obtaining any financial gain from other peoples work - I am still trying to decipher the 7800GTX 512 ROM !

Cheers,

OK.take my name here and add "2@mac.com"

When I wrote the GTX512 ROM it was a 3 day marathon as I had a loaner G5 that had to go back.

It was based on Quadro 4500 ROM but with MANY strings replaced from RAM init strings in PC BIOS of 7800GTX512. Tricky part is that PPC ROMs were in FCode with tedious tokenizing strings that have to remin in their place...so when transposing stuff you need to recognize them and leave the token strings alone in place...putting the "real" info around it.

The 7800GTX256 I spent hours on but could only get a 7800GT ROM to work...but with RAM init strings from PC 78GTX256 BIOS. Oddly, it works GREAT in Tiger but in Leopard it has 2 BIG issues.
1. MUCH slower than in Tiger..slower than a regular 7800GT.
2. The fan STOPS. It literally spins at boot but just STOPS afterward. May start spinning slowly again on the ones with the BIG QUadro fan...but rather disastrous on the single slot cards.

Hello,

very sorry to hijack this thread (I hate that, too). But as it is rather recent and I am getting desperate, I have resorted to this.

I have an Ultra 6800 AGP as the primary card and I would like an FX5500 PCI as the secondary card (so I can connect a 3rd monitor). I have flashed it with the FX5200/5500 ROM for 256 MB but it does not work.
1) I can boot and login, but then the system hangs. When I remove the PCI card, it works normally again.
2) I can boot with both cards but have NO SCREEN connected to the PCI card (only to the AGP card), I can see it is recognized in about this mac. If I connect a screen to the PCI the system freezes.

Any ideas what I could try? I wanted to get the Radeon 9200 originally, but I was aiming for Core+Quartz support and the FX5200/5500 seemed the easiest choice.

I would really appreciate any pointers, since I have already sunk 2 days into this.

regards
m
