Refurbished Powerbook 64

Hi, ya'll......(had a heckuva time finding how/where to send this message- DUH!)

I went to the MacClinic in Sedona AZ, and they have a "refurbished" Powerbook 64, 17" screen, about 4 years old, 1.67 GHz Power 64, 1.25 GB memory, 120 GB hard drive, and Super Drive..... with only a 3 month guarantee-- for $999.00.

I'd love some feedback on whether I should buy it, as I have limited $, and it did look good, and they "seemed" honest enough. (But after all these years, I'm still an elderly beginner! More DUH!)

Hopefully,
Beverly

There are 2 different PB G4 17". Not sure which one you are looking at. Here's the specs & at the bottom of the pages, there's an approx price.

Apple PowerBook G4 1.67 17" (Al) Specs (M9689LL/A)

Apple PowerBook G4 1.67 17" (DLSD/HR - Al) Specs (M9970LL/A)

Here's some reviews.

Here's some store prices, but the one you are looking at has more RAM & larger HD.

You might possibly get a lower price on eBay, but you won't be able to inspect before you buy & won't get a warranty. If I recall correctly, Apple only provides a 90 day warranty on new Macs.

Go for it. Maybe you can get it for slightly less if you bargain.

 Cheers, Tom 😉

Hey Beverly,
First I'd say the G4 is a bit older and w/ the introduction of Snow Leopard is no longer supported by Apple.
If you run that model G4 here:
http://www.mac2sell.net/
It will come back as worth $490 used and there are clean used examples of these around here for about $450.
Is there anyone you know who can help you find a newer machine. If you were my client I'd find a newer MacBook for you. You do need a laptop?
This person could also help you find a good used machine at half the price.
A brand new MacBook is selling for $999 at the Apple store.
It's a smaller display and the initial hardware warranty is 1 year. Purchasing Apple Care will run it to 3 years.
It will run the newest software and will continue to do so for some years.
If you had someone who knows Macs and you trust you could look at machines like this one for $750 (just for example):
http://flagstaff.craigslist.org/sys/1503073793.html
It still apparently has some Apple Care left on it's contract. You could actually verify this by running the serial number at the Apple Store to find out exactly how much remains.

I'd love to reply to all 3, but DUH! So Dear Spudnuty.....
Thank you so much for your honesty...... I can recognize everything you said, and being CLEAR enough for ME is a miracle!! So I do have someone I can turn to, and do see now that what the Sedona AZ Apple store was asking was far too much...... of what I ain't got!

So will take your wonderful advice, and try to figure out how to thank you enough!!!
Here's GOBS o' THANKS to begin with,
Beverly
