Imac Core 2 Duo 2.66 20' freezing on Snow Leopard

The day before yesterday I had a problem using Imovie 6.03 and Snow Leopard.

When I open Imovie and I import a DV file the Imovie and the snow Leopard freezes.
I have used Snow Leopard for several months and only now this problem occurred.
I see that my Snow Leopard was very slow after this problem...
I formatted the hard disk and put the original Imac disk (Leopard) but the problem continues.
I have called to Brazil Apple Center and they told me to make Apple Hardware Test.
The result was an error 4MOT/2/40000004: HDD-1373.
I formated the HD again and I put only the Snow Leopard and I make Hardware Test again. The problem continued.
The Disk Utility doesn't identify the problem (S.M.A.R.T. is OK)
I tested the memory and nothing occurred.
Apple says it can't identify the error code and they believes the HDD information could be a problem in the hard disk.
After searching in the internet about this error I believe the problem can be solved changing the hard disk by a new one.
My Imac is out of the garantee and I think that I must buy a new HD to make the change.
I have seen in the www.ifixit.com how to open the Imac to change the hard disk.
I hope everything will be ok when I open my Imac...

Apple should be investigate about this problem because I think that this should be a software problem and no hardware...

Is there anybody that can give me any information ?

If the hardware test detects an issue, it is a hardware problem.
If AppleCare doesn't have all the hardware test error codes, it may be you reached someone new there. Call them back. And tell them you spoke to someone who does not have all the hardware test error codes. Escalate your call to someone else if you are given statements that they don't know the issue.
Regardless they should be able to tell you whatever error code. As long as you didn't replace the hard disc yourself, you may be able to argue having it replaced, if this issue happened under warranty. If it never happened under warranty, then you probably will have to get it replaced yourself, or by a nearby authorized service center.

Hello again !

I purchased a new HD (Seagate 1.5TB 3Gbit 32 cache) and I followed ifixit.com to change my HD.
Bad news !
The installation was a success and I formatted with Imac DVD disk (original) but after Apple Hardware Test was failled: 4MOT/2/30000004:HDD-1363

I am very disappointed !
As I did not know what to make, I decided to invert the memories in the SLOTS and I decided to make a Apple Hardware Test again:
The result was: Error: 4MOT/2/30000004:HDD-1363

In all the tests, Apple the Hardware Test stopped in the 33 minutes.
Maybe a memory fail ? Because Apple Hardware Test tests memory first ?

Can anybody give me more information ?
Can somebody of the one of the Apple Support help me?

Can you check your CPU/HDD/ODD speed fan speed? (Using iStat or smcfancontrol)

my imac got 4mot/2/4000004:HDD, and now 4mot/1/4000003:HDD code, apple care have yet confirm the code to me, but from i what see from another group, this code refer to one of the fan speed is upon/below normal value.

as for my situation, my hard disk fan run faster than the normal speed (mim @ 1500 rpm, but the default value seems to be 1200rpm)
