Eastlink and Email services

Hi folks, I'm new with the iPhone, finally jumping from brick to new technology, albeit a bit late..

With my new 3GS phone, I'm able to download and upload my email from my ISP mail server (pop3 and smtp) ONLY if I am in WiFi mode at home, but in 3G network mode, I'm able to download but not UPload my email to the ISP mail server. When I asked tech support, their janitorial staff told me "I don't know that one...." and that is about all I got from them.. wow. Nice. I can do web mail through a browser but that's not what I'm looking for..

I have been able to do 3G mail to and from my personal web server's SMTP, but not the ISP one.. I haven't yet tried this through a hot spot ISP.

Any ideas how I should set up the iPhone to be able to do my principle email account through both WiFi and 3G?

Can you guys get the mail to work at all with eastlink settings? I can't get in oming or outgoing to work. SAys I have wrong username or password and I know they are correct.

Ahh. the quick answer from someone on the inside (Janitorial Staff is more helpful than Tech Support)

In short, if you bought a phone supported by EASTLINK (aka weak link) then you would have support.. but since we are on either Bell Aliant or Telus, why should or would they ever want to offer support for a product we didn't deem worthy to purchase from East Link.. (never mind the fact you can't get iPhones from Weaklink..)

This, in short, is why we get the cold cold shoulder from their tech support.. Shame they won't tell you so, but have to rely on the knowledgeable people from the Janitorial staff to assist you..

I did find a work around this though by setting up a GMail account and making it the default account.. When I am away from my WiFi (where I can send email through weak link), I can't default the reply email from my GMail account.. and it works well.. Nice.

Now, if someone ever came up with a proper way of 3G replying through the WeakLink System, then sure I'd go for that.. I'm sure there's a way to do it, but just have to find the right SMTP address...

Use the GMail sending server in the WeakLink System email account and on the iPhone in Settings/Mail, Contacts ... make 'Always Bcc Myself' On and under Signature give yourself a signature unique to the iPhone. You should now receive a copy of your sent emails in the Inbox of your WeakLink System account so you just need to create a rule that moves incoming emails with the signature you created on the iPhone to your Sent Mail box. I do something similar for emails I send from my iPhone so that I get a copy in a subfolder in the the Sent Items box of Entourage on my Mac. The only downside is that you get a copy back on the iPhone of all the emails I send from.

Thanks Sean, I had someone from Weaklink actually provide me with a solution late last night which worked, the base point he said was 'they won't help you cuz you didn't buy the phone from us, but the solution is so simple, why p*ss off people?!'

I used the 1x bell server actually.. and it worked.. I have the unique iPhone tag to let me know where I sent it from and CC'd it back to me to let me know whom and when I replied, basically just as you described..

A simple solution actually.. once you know how..
