AIM Keeps Unexpectedly Closing

For some reason AIM "unexpectedly" has to close about every five minutes. I've only had this PowerBook for a few weeks now and this is the only problem I'm having. I've tried downloading and redownloading and nothing's doing the trick. I read of a couple other people having the same problem. Any suggestions?

Here's the message I keep getting.

Date/Time: 2005-06-24 14:59:27.143 -0400
OS Version: 10.4.1 (Build 8B15)
Report Version: 3

Command: AOL Instant Messenger (SM)
Path: /Users/michaelscollins/Desktop/AOL Instant Messenger (SM)/Contents/MacOS/AOL Instant Messenger (SM)
Parent: WindowServer [56]

Version: 4.7 (1333)

Any help would be appreciated.

Give iChat a try (with an AIM account).

I'm sure this problem will no longer exist. Besides, if your buddies have mic and one mac user has a webcam you could find yourselves videoconferencing.

Hi, That is strange that AIM keeps quitting on you. I agree though with using iChat, or Adium. I prefer Adium because it is easily modified and constantly being updated. iChat is a very good program however, along with having the voice chat capability. But the main thing is that both are much better than AIM in looks, and functionality.

Hi Kimberly, and welcome to the forums.

You too should give iChat a try. It's just AIM but with a neater skin. And will allow you to video-chat with you PC buddies, which isn't an option if you try to use the AIM version for macs. You will need a webcam though (to videochat - this is a must but is worth it).

thestatecoop,
this happened to me all the time when i first purchased my Powerbook. i finally gave up and decided to use safari with my AIM accounts. it works really well if not better. the only thing i dont like is how my buddy lists merged but you get used to it. i think it is because AIM has not been updated for mac in FOREVER! give ichat a try.

huh?

You're right though, mac versions of the messengers haven't been updated for looooong time. Take Yahoo Messenger for example.
