Santa brought Aperture! Now what?

My wife bought me Aperture for Christmas, and now I'm confused as to how I am to get all my thousands of iPhoto images into Aperture. I tried importing the entire library but that fails about half way through. So how do I get these images imported? I really don't want to use iPhoto anymore. Please give me some ideas so I can get going with this beautiful package. Thanks for your time, and Merry Christmas to all.

I assume you've tried the Import -> iPhoto Library command.

How does it fail? Is there a message of any kind? It suggests that there may be an issue with the iPhoto Library. What version do you have?

Other options include exporting from iPhoto and importing, but if there's an issue with iPhoto the exporting part may also fail.

My view is that in most cases the future is always greater than the past so do not try and import the past, start with the current and future pictures and take those into Aperture - perfect your work flow and then when you are fully happy with how it works and can get from it what you want then start importing your iPhoto pictures into it - again starting with the most recent.

I'll have to try importing again, but I think it said some 600 or so items could notbe imported do to incompatible file formats. I know I only have about 5 or 6 movies, those I can understand. I have no raws, and everthing else are jpgs. Then I noticed only half of my projects from iPhoto were there. I'll tryit again, and let you know what happens.
