Ricardo,

According to Apple (see below) the answer is no.

Mac OS X 10.0 and Later

In Mac OS X, rebuilding the Desktop file is only applicable to the Classic environment.

1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu.
2. Click the Classic icon.
3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. Click Rebuild Desktop.

Just curious as to why you are asking...

Thanks Grant for ur interest!
I posted some topics about it already, inclusive a real nasty one (wich I'm sorry anyway) 😟
Its probably something hardware related: cause when the PB warms the problem seams to fade. The simptoms are wrong mapping of OSX menus, flickering dock icons. Something I found out is that if I change the energy settings in to best battery life the problem gets worst, if I click on Better Performance than the problem fades... Still didnt sent it to apple...waiting for a substitute machine. But this one came from the box already like this, so.... a bit frustrated ;( THKS

Ricardo,

I'm wondering if the reason your asking is because you've installed some apps and instead of their icon you see the generic 'applications' icon. I encountered a similair issue a couple of months ago. As I recall I read somewhere (MacWorld or MacAddict magazine) that this was a bug in latest update at the time. At the time however I noticed that when I moved the app from the desktop to the dock it's proper icon appeared. I think it must have been fixed recently because I just tried dropping the app on my desktop again and it shows the apps icon and not the generic one.
