DVD Player Not Responding

DVD Player Not Responding

I've had my Macbook for about 3 years now, and have had no problems with the DVD Player application. Not for the last week or so, my computer will read and play the DVD, but once it plays for a certain point, and I try to do anything(pause and then unpause, eject, close the app, go back to the main menu) the application stops responding. I either have to turn my computer completely off and restart, or close the Macbook, wait for it to go to sleep, open it up and then force quit.

Any ideas on what is the problem and how I can fix it. It is not the DVD's. Most of what I've played are brand new DVD's.

Do you haver issues with data dvds? do you frequently have issues burning dvds? Do any other applications lock up? Do other computers have issues with the same DVD?

if that doesn't fix the issue. you may need to re-install the dvd player and or the OS. it could also be a hardware issue with the super drive. I would back every thing up and bring book an appointment for a genius bar.

if you can re-creeate the issue quickly. Like say 5 minutes or less. then they should be able to figure out if it's a hardware or software issue. And tell you what your options are.

or if your the tech type and you have a spare hd. you could install a copy of the os onto that drive and test.

I haven't had any problems with CD's, and I don't burn DVD's.

I don't really know what resetting the smc and the nvram will do to my computer. Could you give me any more info on what this does in layman's terms, please?

Sure lilblig7,

the articles explain in great detail what both actions will do to your computer. But basically you will need to set your region/time/date. sound is reset, witch means if you had your volume turned off/down you will need to do so again. the screen will default back to the original brightness/ resolution. witch means you may have to go into apple menu, system preferences, display to set again.

What it dose do, with may help you. Is forces the computer to re-discover your superdrive.
