PS/2 Keyboard connected via USB adapter - Not working

I have an eMachines PS/2 keyboard that I have hooked up to my MacBook Pro with a PS/2 to USB adapter. The keyboard initially receives power I know because the three lights for numlock, caps lock and scroll lock all light up when I plug it in. However, I am not able to use the keyboard at all... is there anyway I would be able to use it with a download or something?

Thanks

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.7), Brand new!

Two things I've encountered in the past:

1) Try borrowing a different keyboard or different USB adapter to see if a different combination works. I have several USB adapters (3 different "no-name" manufacturers) and each has one or more keyboards that they don't like, but not necessarily the same keyboard(s).

2) Don't go through a USB hub. On my Mini, I get some strange results. Things like the keyboard works fine for a while, then acts like a key is stuck. One time is was Windows-L that was repeating and created several hundred aliases of my desktop icons. 😟 After several days of troubleshooting, I found that the issue only happened if I had the adapter plugged in to a USB hub. Plugging the keyboard and adapter directly to the Mac resolved the issue.

Same problem here.

Trying to use a genius keyboard, and a ps/2 barcode reader.
The Keyboard Assistant shows up, but it does not recognise the "keyboard type".
Outside of the assistant, not a single key works.
I have already tested the ps/2-usb adapter under windows and linux, and it works well with the keyboard and with the barcode reader.

Under system profile, it gets recognised as:

Generic USB K/B:

ID del producto: 0x0017
ID del fabricante: 0x13ba
Versión: 0.01
Velocidad: Hasta 1,5 Mb/s
ID de la ubicación: 0xfa410000
Corriente disponible (mA): 100
Corriente necesaria (mA): 100

Any clues?
