Writing in Bengali?

One of my friends from Bangladesh is considering buying a Mac and is wondering if writing in Bengali (Bangla) is supported?

I cannot find any information about it, so could anyone let me know if writing in Bengali is possible in Snow Leopard?

Yes, there is no problem reading/writing Bengali, but to do so you need do download and install this stuff:

You have to wonder why such a big language like Bangla isn't included with Mac OSX, but Uyghur and Icelandic are? Anyways, I suggest that you give Apple feedback to let them know that they should include Bangla "out of the box."

Thanks for the excellent info.

I just sent some feedback to Apple suggesting they get their act together and include Bengali out of the box and I hope anyone reading this will take a minute of their time and do the same...

Yes, Bengali is by far the most important script not yet provided (230 million speakers according to Wikipedia). Others needed are Telugu (74), Myanmar (52), Kannada (47) , Malayalam (36), Oriya (31), Amharic (25), Khmer (21), Sinhala (19), and Lao (5).

Yes, in my feedback to Apple I mentioned that Bangladesh was the 7th most populous country in the world.

BTW, where can we see a list of all the currently supported languages?
