Cannot get Toast10 to recognise my external Sony DRX-510UL DVD burner

I would like to use my Sony DRX-510UL DVD +- R/+- RW burner, but i cannot find the driver that is compatible with Mac. I read this review it suggested that Roxio was software that would do the job... http://www.emedialive.com/Articles/ReadArticle.aspx?ArticleID=7972

I have installed Toast 10 & neither Mac or Toast recognise the Sony burner that is connected via USB port on the back of the iMac.

I still have the original software disc for the Sony burner but of course it is written for PC.

Can anyone help me find a compatible Sony DRX 510UL driver for Mac? Plenty of options for PC, but i cannot find one for Mac.

Not every optical drive will work on a Mac. However, most USB devices that support the USB Mass Storage protocols should work. If the drive does not work then contact either the vendor or manufacturer. No special drivers should be required for the Mac.

Absolutely not!! Retirement is not a time to gamble, and futures trading is gambling. You might do as well buying lottery tickets, and they're cheaper when you lose!

I still have had no luck. I inquired about Patchburn, but apparently Patchburn driver has been installed in 10.5 & greater already. If that is the case why would iMac not recognise my Sony burner via the USB port?

My iMac is connected wirelessly to time machine which is connected via ethernet to the internet router. Is this setup classed as a network setup? If so, could the issue be a file sharing problem?

Your network configuration shouldn't be relevant to the problem. It may be the problem is related to the particular enclosure or to the USB cable.

Open System Profiler and see if the drive is registering when it's connected. It would appear in the ATA and Disc Burning sections. If it doesn't register in System Profiler then there's a problem with the drive or you have a corrupted system installation. If it does register then open Disk Utility, put a disc in the drive and see if DU lists it. If you have a DVD with data on it, then insert it and see if it mounts on the Desktop.
