Ally Bank Website Safari Browser Problem!

The accounts login page and accounts pages for Ally Bank don't appear properly in Safari 4.0.4. The purple bar on the left side winds up blocking account information and looks even more out of "alignment" on the account screens once logged in.

I have the most updated version of Safari (4.0.4) and OS X 10.6.2 on my iMac (1680 X 1050) and Macbook Pro.... and it's happening on both computers.

For photos, see: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r23544916-

Is this a Safari problem or a problem with their site? How can one tell?

How do I fix this?

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Welcome to the forums!

Some banks are notoriously uncaring and lazy about what systems and browsers they support.

As it says in this document:

http://developer.apple.com/internet/safari/

"Safari complies with standards, but not all browsers do. This article explains how to design, modify and validate your website so that it can be rendered and read properly by all major browsers."

The bank/s need to read this:

"Safari is one of the most standards-compliant browsers ever built. Thus, your best bet for ensuring your pages render properly in Safari — today’s version and beyond — is to follow web standards. For a great overview of web standards, check out Mozilla.org’s article Using Web Standards in Your Web Pages."

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
We other Mac users here, sharing solutions.
OK, so I tested the page. It loads fine.
I don't have an account, so I can't log in, but the Home and login pages are fine.

I would suggest that you delete the Ally bank Cookies
from your Safari Preferences (upper left pulldown menu)
then go to Security > Show Cookies, and type in Ally.
Delete all cookies that show up there.

Other posters here have experienced difficulties with Silverlight,
but I don't have personal experience with that plugin.

Try the Cookie delete, Restart Safari, and let us know.

YES! Thank you, worked for me too!

I was also having problems with 2 banking sites, also with gamespot.com. I deleted the "com.apple.Safari.plist" file, re-started Safari, and voila, everything rendered correctly (thankfully) once again!

Because of this problem I had switched to Firefox, can now go back to Safari. Doing the above does delete your Safari preferences but does retain your bookmarks.

In fact after putting my setting back into Safari I had problems again, turns out the offending setting is under:

Preferences>Advanced>Never set your font sizes smaller than....

I had set it to 14, when I un-ticked this setting all my messed up web-pages looked ok again (if rather difficult to read!).

Hope this helps!
